What is Project 5000?
BopProject 5000 is an economic development strategy that seeks to create jobs and business opportunities for people who live in under-served urban communities. Our GOAL is to GIVE VIOLENCE a JOB or a business opportunity by targeting distressed and abandoned properties that litter both the residential and commercial sector of our neighborhoods. We have a self imposed mandate to create 5000 new homeowners and investors that will bring 75,000 plus jobs to the city and its surrounding areas. These jobs will be for people who live in the communities that we seek to revitalize.
The 2008 real estate market crash was devastating on the black community throughout America. Massive foreclosures brought the world’s economy to the brink of collapse. The black community experienced the largest transfer of wealth in our history in this country.
We believe that revitalizing the blighted areas and developing small businesses within them is the best strategy to eliminate poverty and crime, while simultaneously creating a viable means for our young people to positively contribute to our world. Our goal is to create safe, affordable housing for the masses with these dilapidated structures. Home ownership and financial literacy will be the key to the revitalization process. The residual effect of an effort like this is that it will create a massive transfer of wealth back into the hands of the struggling middle class who have taken a beating in recent years due to the massive foreclosure and job loss due to the recession and technology innovation.
With a core commitment to give violence a job it is imperative that we empower urban entrepreneurs who want to own and operate businesses in the areas where we are revitalizing the residential and retail real estate. Urban Business Renewal is the answer to Urban unemployment which is why our business model revolves around impregnating the communities that we have targeted with business centers that offer essential resources to start-ups and entrepreneurs who have big ideas but who also need affordable physical space and mentoring to grow. These business owners will be the ones who hire the displaced population in our community like ex-offenders, at risk youth and veterans.
We believe that the Black Condition is not a white problem or even a black one, we believe that it is an American problem. For Project 5000 the solution is clear...we must take the both the blighted residential and commercial structures lying dormant and use them as an incubators for human potential, affordable housing and thriving business that can create massive employment.
